Illegal Case
Solicitation/Barratry

Be careful ... A lawyer who is willing to illegally solicit you may be the same attorney that steals your money. Stay informed. Protect yourself, protect your family and don't be victimized twice.

Don't let unethical lawyers or chiropractors ILLEGALLY take advantage of you!

Imagine the unthinkable. A family member is tragically taken from you. You are in your darkest hour, distraught and vulnerable, grieving the loss of a loved one. While at the funeral home, taking care of intimate details, someone callously approaches you with a contract from a lawyer's office. It goes without saying that this is neither the time nor the place to approach you and your family, and you are not in the right frame of mind to evaluate which lawyer is best for you.

This story is a reality time and time again. Injury cases mean big dollars for lawyers, and dishonest attorneys will stop at nothing to get these cases, even if it means breaking the law and taking advantage of you when you are most vulnerable.

It is important to note that the scheme involves more than just lawyers. Lawyers regularly employ an array of people to do their ambulance chasing, and you have to be on the lookout. Barratry, or illegal solicitation, can begin right after someone runs into your vehicle. Oftentimes police officers, tow-truck drivers, telemarketers, funeral home personnel, news reporters, clergy, chiropractors, hospital employees, or law firm "investigators" conspire with unethical attorneys to get you to sign a contract and may offer you money, gifts, or promises in exchange for your signature. These individuals persuade you to hire a particular attorney then get paid referral fees for each case they send to that attorney. Millions of dollars in unlawful kickbacks are paid to these illegal case runners each year – money that should have gone to the clients!

Be on the lookout for unethical chiropractors as well. Some chiropractors, like unethical lawyers, are pulling accidents reports from police departments and contacting the victims to lure them into the office for treatment. Those same chiropractors often try to persuade victims to hire a particular attorney, in exchange for referral fees from that attorney. This is just one of many methods that unscrupulous lawyers use to exert influence over accident victims and hustle the cases.

Ask Yourself This:

  • Was I approached by someone at home or by telephone who recommended the services of an attorney or chiropractor?
  • Did I freely choose my attorney or chiropractor without the harassment of another individual?
  • Did my attorney or chiropractor bribe me with gifts or "free" items in exchange for signing a contract?
  • Was I required to sign papers that were not fully explained to me?
  • Did my attorney or chiropractor offer me copies of all the paperwork I signed?
  • Have I hired an attorney but never actually met that attorney face to face?

A lawyer who is willing to break the law and take advantage of you is not the best lawyer to represent you. Stay informed. Protect yourself, protect your family, and don't be victimized!
