Duract

Duract is an anti-inflammatory drug which was heavily marketed in 1997. By February of 1998, reports of severe liver damage were so widespread that the manufacturer, Wyeth-Averst, and the FDA agreed that label changes needed to be made indicating that the drug should not used more than 10 days. The label change was placed in the label's fine print and by the end of 1998 there were reports of as many as 68 deaths among the drug's users in patients who were prescribed the drug for more than 10 days. Over 25% of these were from liver failure.
